Ryan Cairney Drums

Performance

Versatility is a strong mantra for Ryan. This has led him to collaborations of all styles and substance across the country. Starting out in heavy metal bands at the age of 13, Ryan progressively delved into more and more genres throughout his teens. Whilst studying at university,  jazz and latin music became a huge interest to Ryan, ultimately shaping his career path.

His current projects include; drummer for original band SHEARS, drummer for Edinburgh College Big Band,  drummer for Vintage Swing cover band Radio Pachuco, and drummer for the Robin Robertson Blues Band. Beyond these regular commitments, Ryan frequently deps for multiple performances around Scotland, mainly theatre and wedding bands. Ryan loves working with theatre companies and in the pits, having played for Spamalot, Grease, Billy Elliot, The Producers, and a host of Revue Shows. He regularly deps single nights and short runs in many theatres across Edinburgh and Scotland. Focusing on relevant professional skills, Ryan can sightread to a high level and will happily be involved in the songwriting process.

Each year Ryan is heavily involved with performances during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. In 2017 he performed over 70 shows (Ratpack, Blues Brothers, Other Guys) with London based company 21 Theatres.

Ryan particularly enjoys working with more unusual projects, including; playing for the Glasgow Burlesque Festival, accompanying interpretive dancer Claire Bell, performing with Doom Metal band In Absence, and playing with Scottish rapper Stevie Creed.

If you or your project requires a highly experienced and skilled drummer/percussionist, for long runs or just one night, please get in touch!
